La neoyorquina Kate Conrad organiza una segunda luna de miel con su marido para sobrellevar la marcha de su hijo a la universidad. Pero, inesperadamente, él le pide el divorcio. A pesar del plantón, Kate se va a África para disfrutar del safari ella sola. En Zambia, ella y el piloto, Derek Holliston, rescatan a una cría de elefante húerfana y la llevan a un refugio local para animales.
