Una misteriosa joven, Katie (Nicky Whelan), y su hija se mudan a un nuevo pueblo para escapar de su pasado y se hacen amigas de Angela Morgan (Gina Gershon), una madre que quiere tener una familia más grande. Según su relación se va desarrollando, Angela y su marido, Brian (Nicolas Cage), dejan que Katie viva en su casa de invitados para hacer de cuidadora.
